5 March: The Preparation.
Friday, 5 March 2010

It doesn’t seem to matter now early I start the preparation for my expeditions, I just seem to be always behind the eight ball!

Some of this can be put down to myself coming up with new or better suited equipment for my expeditions, then finding that I’ll have make it myself because it just doesn’t exist for the salt water environment.

Then you find that the parts you need for the next project have to not only come from all four corners of the globe, but it has to be shipped from some unpronounceable town somewhere in the middle of nowhere! But I know in the end it’ll be worth it . . . I hope!

I still haven’t finished my mapping for the Torres Straits as I found out from the last time I was up there that depending on what map you looked at, the islands sometimes had two, or even three different names to them.

So this time I’m overlaying all the names for each island on the new maps. I also need new maps as this time I taking a different route to PNG, the bloody long way!

The ‘plan’ is to paddle out to the furthest eastern island, Murray Island, then paddle in a north western direction up to Saibai Island. I know it would be easier to just head north from Thursday Island, but where would the fun be in that!

Well on that note, I better get back to doing the mapping.
