My new laptop sun shade.

Laptop Sun Shade.
Monday, 11 January 2010

If you have ever tried to use your laptop out in the bright sunshine, you'll know exactly where I'm going from when I say . . . "I can't see the f#*%ing screen!"

It's always almost been impossible to do an update when you have to climb a hill to get a clear view for reception, only to find you can't see the screen, so I decided I had to come up with a hood for the computer.

After surfing the internet, I came across a couple of different ideas. After some close inspection of watching a video of one I liked the most, I decided I could make cheaper than the asking price of $40.00 US.

So I was off to Officeworks to find a folder of sorts with a thin, but strong plastic cover to make my sun shade. What ended up being perfect for the job was a $7.00 documents folder.

The next thing was to make a template out of cardboard to get my design right before cutting up the documents folder. Now where can I find some cardboard that's sturdy, but not too thick, Irene's art supplies!

"What the hell are you doing in my art supplies!!!" was the reaction I got within 15 seconds of going into Irene's art domain. Boy she doesn't miss a trick!

After escaping narrowly with my life, and a piece of cardboard, I was back on track to designing my sun shade, be it that I've aged another 10 years!

The next step was to take some measurements of my computer and then to transfer them over to the precious piece of cardboard. I only had one go at this because to ask for another piece of cardboard would have meant the end of me.

After cutting the cardboard and fitting it to the computer, which fitted perfectly the first time round, I then used the templates to cut out the shapes on the plastic documents folder.

All that was left to do was to score the plastic where it was to fold and then attach it to the computer with self adhesive Velcro tape.

The sun shade folds up when its' not needed and stays on the computer, that way it's one less thing I have to look for when I need it!

I suppose now there's know excuse not to have any updates up now.

I wonder if the computer will now need sunscreen?
