Sony DSR-PDX10P DVCAM Video Camcorder.

Thursday, 29 October 2009
For those of you that don't know, last year I was just starting a 7 month expedition when an accident happened.
I was paddling out in the middle of nowhere when I came across a boat that was kind enough to fill my water bladders. Unfortunately in the bad weather their boat rolled over onto the deck of my kayak, right where my main video was mounted onto my kayak.
I was okay, but the same couldn't be said about the video camera and it ended up being a total write off as the underwater housing had cracked and proceeded to let water in.
Happening so early in the trip and with the logistics of trying to source new equipment out in the middle of nowhere, I decided to stop the expedition until a later date.
After some considerable thought, I decided to go with the same broadcast quality video camera as it would fit into the underwater housing that I wanted. The only difference in the housing is the colour, it now has orange trimmings rather than yellow of my last one.
But so Murphy's Law doesn't come into it, I brought two underwater housings, one as a spare . . . just in case!
The Sony DSRPDX10P is one of the smallest 3 CCD DVCAM™ professional camcorder on the market.
Sony DSRPDX10P Features: • High Picture quality with three 1/4.7 inch CCD sensors with 1,070,000 pixels each. • Super SteadyShot optical stabilization system. • 12x variable optical zoom and 24x or 48x digital zoom. • True 16:9 (precision) or 4:3 switchable image capture. • MPEG movie recording (320 x 240) on Memory Stick. • DVCAM (40 minutes) or DV (60 minutes) recording.
Sony SPK-DVF3 Features: • Underwater photography to the depth of 2m is possible • ON / OFF, start / stop, photo and 2 stage adjustable-speed zoom function • LCD screen viewable from outside of housing. • Underwater Stereo Microphone • Tripod Mount
One other accessory that I have for this camera is a Sony UWPC1 lavalier wireless microphone system (see below). It allows me to record my own audio from up to 500 metres away from the camera. At that distance you mightn't be able to see me in the video, but you'll still hear me!
